Potty/Toilet Training

Potty and toilet training is an understandably difficult phase for any child, and I have a consistent and practical approach to give newfound confidence to your children and help them walk a little taller! By far, the most frequent inquiries that I get from struggling parents centre around potty training, and my workshops tackling the subject are always full of anxious parents looking for solutions that work. My approach is no-nonsense, practical, and effective, whilst keeping each child at the core.

Each child is unique, and each one requires a different set of solutions; it’s just as stressful a transition for them as it is for parents. I will always be tailoring my approach to reflect and support, and I have a wealth of experience – a treasure trove of simple tricks – to draw on for each family. My focus is on consistency and routine, yielding noticeable results with the minimum of stress. I can offer a truly bespoke service, based clearly on the unique needs and unique personality of each young toilet trainer. The goal is, and will always be, to empower them. They’re the ones that make those all-important breakthroughs, those pivotal ‘I did it!’ moments; they only need the right tools to get on with it themselves.

I believe that toilet training isn’t an aspect of development in isolation; a child’s successes and struggles with potty training are always linked to their overall development such as language, physical, emotional and cognitive development. These critical skills form the basis for my toilet training.

For example:

  • Can your child’s name or point to parts of their body?
  • Can your child sing a few nursery rhymes?
  • Can they follow a verbal instruction?
  • Are you using less nappies?
  • Do they choose to use the toilet in the same area of the house, out of sight?

Most experts in children’s development agree that the first signs of a child’s readiness for potty training emerge at around 18-20 months, and continue to develop from there. This is our golden window of opportunity to support them, our prime time for tackling toilet training.

When supporting a family, I evaluate your child’s current skills and development in these key areas, assessing their readiness for toilet training. With a good understanding of their own development, we can start to build the right environment, the right routine that’s supportive and effective for them. We can also address some of the more distressing outward signs and signals that cause concern during this time such as withholding, soiling or refusing.

Sleep Support for children aged 1 year and over

Sleep is critical to everyone, especially young children, and when they’re struggling to sleep soundly it can affect the whole family. So much of daily life, for parents as well as children, can be improved with consistent sleep routines. So, when I work with a family whose little ones are not sleeping, I bring the same tailored, practical and empathetic approach. When dealing with sleep training, I always approach each family with support, kindness and respect in mind. Each family has their own idea of what routines should look like, so I work with each family to create a sleep plan that families feel comfortable and confident with.

Consistency is key, and my approach accepts the need for practicality. The best sleeping routine in the world can only work if families feel comfortable using it, so I always work with families to build a plan that they feel happy with. Many families naturally choose to step towards a peaceful night’s sleep slowly, creating positive sleep associations one step at a time. This avoids methods such as leaving children to cry, which can lead to distressed parents, sleepless nights, and exhaustion. My methods are unique and creative, listening to your child, to you, and offering solutions suited uniquely to your family. The result is a gentle, compassionate and respectful approach to sleep training, giving your child well-established self-soothing skills so they can get a good night’s rest on their own terms.

Behaviour

Our Nanny Queen Service is purpose-built for families struggling with ongoing behaviour issues with their toddlers and young children. I use my caring, confidence-building approach to give parents the essential tools they need to tackle stressful situations. Working closely and directly with my clients or with family nannies, I will build a practical and proactive behaviour management plan with each family at the forefront. These tailored plans carefully consider each family’s routine, parenting styles, and goals; giving them the working framework for a happier life at home. With gentle coaching, caring advice, and practical support every step of the way, we’ll work together to address the causes as well as the solutions to a range of behaviour challenges. Each family is different, so I’m always working with them to find the practices, approaches, and plans that they feel comfortable implementing. With some simple changes, careful planning, and a little bit of patience, we can work together to bring some peace to your home and confidence to your child.
